Tips on How To Select The Right Granite For Your Kitchen Countertop 

So you are very excited about the whole kitchen renovation plans, but when you are asked about your contractor on what kind of granite to use for your kitchen countertop, you cannot answer him straight because you thought all granites are the same. This scene is not a rare case since homeowners don’t really care about the types of granites to use, as long as they envisioned the same countertop they saw in the home and garden catalogs and blogs, then they are good already – unless you are that very meticulous about the details of the granite.

If you are planning to renovate your kitchen, or specifically wanting to change your countertop, you might as well allocate ample time to research about the materials, the advantages and the disadvantages.

Granites differ from each other based on colors and patterns. There are granites that are black, reddish, white, orange with patterns of gold, white, or ash gray.

Basically, choosing a granite countertop depends on the colors and contrast of your cabinets and flooring. It is always suggested that when you go to a showroom, you bring a picture of your cabinet and flooring so that you can match it directly with the granite.  Your granite should contrast to your cabinet color or the gradient or the pattern color should have at least have the same color or similar color of that of the cabinet. 

In this example, the kitchen cabinet is white. If you notice the countertop is white granite with gray patterns on it. Also, the backsplash also has gray patterns, the fridge is metallic, the kitchen seats have gray cover which makes it perfectly fit with the countertop chosen.

The cabinets are creamy white with grayish handles. The granite used is matte gray which complements that of the cabinet handle. Also, the flooring and the kitchen table contrasts with that of the gray countertop.

A black granite and a creamy white cabinet is a perfect combination too. Two contrasting color when combined will give a pleasing result. If you have black or espresso  cabinets, on the other hand, you can go for California White Granite or the Kashmir Gold Granite.

Maple , espresso or any neutral colored cabinets are best paired with beige, white, or grey granite. Titanium granite  is also perfect for any light to medium colored cabinets. 

While dark cabinets (brown, black, ash gray) can be matched with green granites like Lemon Ice, or the Acacia Green Granite 

Honey colored cabinets are best with   Champagne Gold Granite or Silver Mahogany Granite.

Kitchen Size

Another consideration when choosing a granite is the size of your kitchen. Small spaced kitchen needs lighter colors like Kashmire Gold Granite and California White Granite. These colors will make the space wider and bigger.

Floor Color

If we give importance to the right contrast between the granite and the cabinets, we also need to consider the floor color. In the same way, if your floor tile is lighter, you should either pair it with light granite or with darker granite. Whatever pattern of the floor tile, it should be similar or closely the same with your dark granite countertop. If your tile is creamy white, you can best pair it with Indian Absolute Black Granite.
